Now We're Talking is for anyone who wants to understand how businesses actually work, whether you're about to start one, a few years in, or just curious. The first course is done, and what comes next is already taking shape.
The Foundations
The first course, The Foundations, ran as six live sessions over six weeks, bringing in 10 experts alongside Jemma to cover branding, social media, websites, HR, legal basics, insurance, bookkeeping, accounting and tax, cash flow and funding, and the tools worth knowing about. Delivered live, over Microsoft Teams, so people could actually ask questions.
The first course ran at half capacity, which was beyond what we could have hoped for considering it went from idea to delivery in a little over six weeks. The feedback made one thing obvious: people don't just want a course, they want somewhere to keep coming back to.
This is different from MDBC's consultancy work too, not just in who it's for. MDBC gets into your business and builds the systems it needs. Now We're Talking teaches you the foundations so you can make sense of your business yourself.
Something new is taking shape
The pilot taught us a lot, and we're using every bit of that feedback to rework how Now We're Talking courses run. We're not ready to share the details yet, but here's a glimpse of where it's heading.
Each course brings together a selection of topics. The mix changes from one course to the next, and topics come back round.
Standalone sessions for when one subject needs more time than a course can give it.
The practical, day-to-day know-how that rarely gets taught. Excel, for one.
Longer term, there's a membership platform in the works too, recordings, templates, and a way to stay connected with other business owners between courses. This page will grow with it. A dedicated Now We're Talking site is planned for 2027.
I really wasn't sure what to expect but the course exceeded all expectations. There was so much information perfectly presented by the guest speakers who were incredibly knowledgeable and all held together by [Jemma]. This was wonderfully thought out for small business owners as some courses only cater for bigger businesses. It was personal and you could comment without judgement.

Why it exists
Business advice is everywhere. Most of it is generic, and a lot of it assumes you already know the basics. Now We're Talking closes that gap, properly, with people who actually know what they're talking about.
of every ticket goes to the Charlie and Carter Foundation, a local charity with national reach offering a lifeline to parents of children with life limiting illnesses, so they don't have to make the decision between going to work to pay the bills or supporting their child and being there when they are needed most.
